Information About the Products
Hot/Cold
Warm weather stimulates, cold inhibits the flow of fatty acids. A cut-off temperature different for each System, determines your treatment day by day-with standard procedure slightly revised for cold weather. The temperature out-doors is always the deciding factor.
Wash
Oil and sweat glands function best in hot water- cold can clog pores and leave dirt, dead cells and bacteria behind. (Alternating hot and cold only plays havoc with your capillaries.) Hot water stimulates circulation, nourishing your skin from within, and steps up cell reproduction- along with the turnover rate of dead cells at the surface. The mechanics of cleansing are simple- never wash with anything that can distribute bacteria, abrade the skin and disturb the fatty tissue underneath. Wash cloths, brushes, and sponges are verboten. Instead, wet your face and neck, dip the System soap in the hot water, and rub it directly on your skin for thicker lather, more thorough cleansing. Splash 30-40 times, rinsing with the same water to leave a light protective film of fatty acids (a clear rinse would leave skin tight and dry). Splashing with hot water opens the pores and sloughs off dirt, dead cells and bacteria- while it enables fatty acids to flow freely, forming a balanced mantle. Cream
Gently apply cream using only your index finger, applying a small amount. Pressure enough to pull the skin back and forth is too much pressure. Best way to be sure you're not disturbing subcutaneous tissue- apply cream so lightly that the skin does not move. Fatty tissue and acids are less concentrated in eye, lip and neck areas where signs of aging first appear-handle with care. Because the skin on the eyelid is very thin and sensitive, it may absorb moisture and oil from cream- causing the lid to swell and stretching the skin until it becomes loose and saggy. Be sure to blot cream as directed to prevent overloading. Off-Limits- Tissues are made from a wood fiber that's abrasive to the skin. When you blot, use an open tissue- press gently, don't rub.
- Cotton pads drink up your treatment, leave none for your skin. Use only cotton balls for the proper absorbency and pressure on the skin's surface.
- Sun- the most harmful of all the elements- is recognized by research today as the prime culprit in aging the skin. A few hard facts to keep in mind- first, the damaging effects of ultraviolet rays are enhanced by reflection from water , sand and snow. Oral antibiotics may cause severe burning and pigmentation. And prolonged exposure over the years may thicken the epidermis and promote skin cancer. Use good sense when you're outdoors.
- Stress, lack of exercise, irregular hours, loss of sleep and an unbalanced diet can contribute to troubled skin. Stock up on fresh fruits and green vegetables. For breakouts avoid- greasy fried foods, sweets (especially chocolate), nuts, shellfish, aged cheese, pork- and too much coffee, liquor and colas. Of course, eight glasses of water a day are a must for clean, clear skin.
- Squeezing the skin causes pock marks, scarring and enlarged pores. The Skin Basics System balances your skin's flow of oil, closing enlarged pores naturally.
